Building with STEAM

With the help of Kaydan Cares, a local third-grade classroom received the gift of Magna-Tiles to help build out their Construction STEAM Station in their art room. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

Mrs. Hamilton, a third-grade teacher at Tomek-Eastern Elementary School in Fenton, Michigan, worked with DonorsChoose to ask for Magna-Tiles. In her donation request, Mrs. Hamilton shared, “Magna-Tiles will allow early finisher students to construct, work in teams, and apply the arts using building concepts in STEM learning.”

After receiving the fully funded Magna-Tiles request, Mrs. Hamilton shared the following message with Kaydan Cares:

“Thank you for donating to my art room! I appreciate you supporting my STEAM Early Finisher Stations to make every moment count in the art room. The Magna-Tiles are a HUGE hit! They are always the first item selected for early finishers. I love that the students are collaborating on their structures. I’ve seen some tall buildings and buildings that are really big using all the tiles. They are also experimenting with using the magnets on other magnetic surfaces. I’m so very grateful to have these Magna-Tiles in the art room. With gratitude, Mrs. Hamilton”
